How It Came About

As has been often reported, the Bounding Main Crew has been itching to get overseas and try our hand at some of the festivals in Europe. There are events year round in the land of the Euro, celebrating sea shanties and nautical history. We were invited to perform at Festival Maritim in Bremen, Germany, in August of 2007. Had we made it to Bremen, there would likely have been other opportunities for us to perform, in Poland, Ireland, Holland and other exotic locales!

One problem though — the cost of getting all six of us on a plane and across the wide sea is kinda high (Maggie needs two seats, but it works out cause David can get stowed with the baggage). The life of a shanty singer is rewarding to the soul, but not so much to the pocket book. So we are starting a travel fund, with hopes to make it to Europe in 2008, as we simply couldn't swing it in 2007.

Over the last year and a half, we have been conducting a campaign to DEPORT Bounding Main. We have hosted a series of events: dinners, house concerts, land cruises, silent auctions, and a CD release party, to raise capital and realize our dream.

We also have sponsorship levels from Dinghy level to Man of War status for those who really want us to get out of the country but don’t want to spend excess time with us. There are neato rewards for all levels, so check it out!

Jon and Dean have put together a map so you can follow our journey across the seas. As funds are added, our convoluted trip overseas will progress. The path seems a little screwy, but it’s the only way Gina can figure to navigate us there. Watch the map to gauge our fundraising efforts and speculate if we will ever achieve this goal.

The show that got this all started!
Note: Bounding Main is not a 501c3 (not-for-profit) organization and your gift is NOT tax-deductible.
It is, however, very much appreciated.
